Chunky gorgeously made glass pearl and Gripox signed Chanel necklace. High quality classic Chanel pearl beads. 1971-1980s mark. A wonderful collector’s quality piece. Comes in the original box. This design has a wonderful mogul Indian influenced drop and paisley blue Gripoix cabochon design. 16″ long. Pendant is 4″ L X 2″ W. Pearls are about .8″ L X .7″ W.
The signature: At the time when Chanel passed away they changed the logo from a simple Chanel in a circle (with or without three stars) to a circle and had the interlocked CC and the copyright. Many are marked with a C upper left, Chanel stamp, the R on the right- then CC below and the date on the very bottom. I feel that the date missing and lower C is a transitional mark within this timeframe, as in the early 80s the C goes below next to a date. This signature, then being identical to the early 80s except for the date. My best estimate of the production date on this is 1978-1985. Karl Lagerfeld hired Victoire de Castellane as head designer of costume jewelry in 1986. At this time the plate changes to an oval and differs from these pre-1985/86 examples.
