Black soft circa 1940s Hermes bag with gilt hardware. Very clean inside and out, fine overall leather wear. Tassel inside intact, all signatures. About 12.5″ wide x 9″ tall. Handle is about 18 around. Foundational rarer 1940s design, part of the history which led to the current iconic styles. Pre-Kelly bag. The “Kelly” bag, which we still know today became famous in 1956 when Grace Kelly used the Sac à Dépêches in the now famous images of her hiding her pregnancy. It wasn’t until the 1980s Birkin bag was born after a chance plane encounter between Jane Birkin and Jean Louis Dumas-Hermes. Circle stamped designs on underside of metal lock, no letters that I found. I think this maybe pre 1945 when they started using the letter A.
